Abstract | This paper describes the mission design and analysis of an S-band network con-sisting of cooperative nanosatellites (S Net). The mission goal is to demonstrate the inter satellite communication capability of distributed nanosatellites in space. The state-of-the-art network will consist of four nanosatellites each equipped with a miniaturized S-band transceiver which was developed by the Berlin Institute of Technology. This configuration will allow multi-point routing with relatively high data rates compared to other nanosatellite communication experiments. Different inter satellite link protocols will be implemented, tested and verified within the satellite network while simulating various network topologies in orbit. It is expected to show that nanosatellites have the potential to carry out demanding communication applications. |
